THE MYSTERY AND MAJESTY OF OUR GOD

WELCOME

HYMN 194 "Oh, That I Had a Thousand Voices "

(Please stand for the last stanza)

SERVICE OF THE WORD - pages 38-44

PRAYER OF THE DAY:

Almighty God and Father, dwelling in majesty and mystery, filling and renewing all creation by your  eternal Spirit, and manifesting your saving grace through our Lord Jesus Christ: in mercy cleanse our  hearts and lips that, free from doubt and fear, we may ever worship you, one true immortal God,  with your Son and the Holy Spirit, living and reigning, now and forever. (Sung) Amen

FIRST LESSON: Numbers 6:22-27

The Lord charges his priests to speak a threefold blessing upon the people. We close our services confident  that our Triune God gives us the majestic things these words pronounce.

22 The Lord told Moses 23 to speak to Aaron and to his sons and to tell them to bless the  Israelites with these words: 24 The Lord bless you and keep you. 25 The Lord make his face  shine on you and be gracious to you. 26 The Lord look on you with favor and give you  peace.27 In this way they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.

P: The Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

PSALM 150 - page 122

 Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

SECOND LESSON: Romans 5:1-5

We have peace because the love of the Father has been demonstrated in his Son and poured out into  our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we also have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we  stand. And we rejoice confidently on the basis of our hope for the glory of God. 3 Not only  this, but we also rejoice confidently in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces  patient endurance, 4and patient endurance produces tested character, and tested character  produces hope. 5And hope will not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured  out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who was given to us.

P: The Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

VERSE OF THE DAY:

Alleluia. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory. Alleluia.  (Sung) Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

These words are written that we may believe

that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

GOSPEL: John 16:12-15

The Son receives what he has from the Father. The Spirit receives what he has from the Son. We receive  what we have from the Spirit.

12 “I still have many things to tell you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 But when he, the  Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own, but  whatever he hears he will speak. He will also declare to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify  me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. 15 Everything the Father has  is mine. This is why I said that he takes from what is mine and will declare it to you.

P: The Gospel of the Lord.

C: (sung) Praise be to you, O Christ!
