LOOK & SEE YOUR KING

WELCOME – we will be using the BLUE HYMNAL today.

HYMN 412 “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” - please stand for last stanza

THE SERVICE – Setting Two - page 172ff

PRAYER OF THE DAY:

We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have redeemed us through  your Son, Jesus Christ. As he was acclaimed by those who scattered their garments and  branches of palms in his path, so may we always hail him as our King and follow him with  perfect confidence; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and  forever. Amen

FIRST LESSON: Zechariah 9:9,10

The prophet Zechariah draws our attention to a Savior King who will rule with gentleness and bring  peace.

9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter of Zion!

 Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!

Look! Your King is coming to you.

He is righteous and brings salvation.

He is humble and is riding on a donkey,

on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim

 and the horse from Jerusalem.

The battle bow will be taken away,

and he will proclaim peace to the nations.

His kingdom will extend from sea to sea,

from the River to the ends of the earth.

P: The Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

PSALM 24 “Welcome the King of Glory”

Welcome the King of glory, each tribe and nation! He is the LORD Almighty, bringing salvation. Refrain - sung

Verses - spoken responsively

Glory be the Father - spoken in union

SECOND LESSON: Hebrews 12:1-3

The cloud of witnesses (heroes of faith) urges us to keep our eyes on Jesus.

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us get rid  of every burden and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with patient  endurance the race that is laid out for us. 2Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who  is the author of our faith and the one who brings it to its goal. In view of the joy set  before him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the  right hand of God’s throne. 3 Carefully consider him who endured such hostility against  himself from sinful people, so that you do not grow weary and lose heart.

P: The Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

VERSE OF THE DAY:

P: The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION – sung (page 179)

Praise to you, Lord Je-sus Christ, King of endless glory.

The reason the Son of God ap-peared was to destroy the dev-il’s work. Praise to you, Lord Je-sus Christ, King of endless glory.

GOSPEL: Matthew 21:1-11

Lift up your head to join the chorus of praise for King Jesus.

1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus  sent two disciples, 2telling them, “Go to the village ahead of you. Immediately you will  find a donkey tied there along with her colt. Untie them and bring them to me. 3If  anyone says anything to you, you are to say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send  them at once.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 Tell  the daughter of Zion:

Look, your King comes to you, humble,

and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus commanded them. 7 They brought the donkey  and the colt, laid their outer clothing on them, and he sat on it. 8 A very large crowd  spread their outer clothing on the road. Others were cutting branches from the trees  and spreading them out on the road. 9 The crowds who went in front of him and those  who followed kept shouting,

Hosanna to the Son of David!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna in the highest!

10 When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, asking, “Who is  this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in  Galilee.”

P: The Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise be to you, O Christ.
